Elon Musk Unveils Game-Changing News That Could Revolutionize the Automotive Industry
Elon Musk, a renowned entrepreneur involved in various ventures, is known for actively promoting the products and services offered by his companies. Recently, he revealed some news regarding Tesla, the electric vehicle manufacturer he leads.
Many people speculated that Tesla would delve into traditional advertising following Musk’s announcement. It was believed that the company would rely less on Musk’s fame and celebrity status compared to most of its competitors.
During Tesla’s annual meeting, Musk addressed shareholders and stated, “We’ll experiment with a bit of advertising and see how it goes.” However, this interpretation of Musk’s intentions turned out to be incorrect.
As the CEO of Tesla, Musk remains the strongest advocate for the company’s electric vehicles. He once again demonstrated this by generating excitement on Twitter about a potential development related to autonomous vehicles at Tesla.
By leveraging his personal brand and active presence on social media, Musk has proven to be an effective ambassador for Tesla. He emphasizes the company’s technological advancements, capturing the attention of both critics and fans alike.
FSD Beta
Currently, Tesla cars come equipped with a standard driver assistance system called Autopilot. Customers also have the option to purchase a more advanced system called Full Self Driving (FSD) for $15,000.
FSD is currently in beta mode, which refers to a system in an advanced stage of development but still requiring corrections before its first production build. The beta phase is particularly useful for gathering feedback on potential bugs or issues encountered during testing.
Initially, FSD was limited to a private beta, exclusively available to select Tesla owners, but it was later expanded. The merit of FSD Beta lies in maintaining enthusiasm around Tesla cars.
In addition to the features offered by the standard system, such as lane changing, navigating interchanges, automatic turn signal engagement, and taking the correct exit, FSD also includes “traffic and stop sign control (beta).”
According to Tesla’s website, this means that FSD can identify stop signs and traffic lights and automatically slow the car to a stop, with the driver actively supervising the process.
Tesla’s FSD is currently in its 11th version, having undergone updates from v11.3.4, v11.3.5, and v11.3.6 to the latest v11.4, released in April to Tesla employees initially. In this version, Tesla cars can navigate city streets and highways proficiently, but Tesla maintains that it does not make the car fully autonomous. In other words, the driver must continue to supervise the vehicle.
“On May 10, Musk highlighted, ‘As mentioned earlier, v11.4.1 has major architectural improvements. It’s much more than a point release. Should arguably be v12.0, but that’s reserved for when FSD is fully AI from video in to control out.'”
‘Version 12 Won’t Be Beta’
However, the software is currently under investigation by U.S. regulators due to its involvement in several incidents, some of which have resulted in fatalities.
Despite potential regulatory challenges, Musk is moving forward. He recently announced on Twitter that the next version of FSD will not be in beta, though he did not clarify if this means the software will enter the production phase.
“A Tesla fan posted on Twitter on Jun. 26, ‘FSD Beta 12 maybe later this year.'” Musk replied, “Version 12 won’t be beta.”
While Musk did not provide further details, his announcement suggests that the next iteration of FSD will involve a complete software overhaul. This revelation sparked excitement and anticipation among Tesla fans, who eagerly sought more information from Musk. Some even asked about the timeline for the release of the next version of FSD.
